Growing from seed:
Sow directly outdoors when the soil is workable, or in early autumn. Water the soil before sowing and keep it moist during germination. Germination can be sped up by soaking the seeds for a day before sowing. Overwintered plants provide a good spring harvest. Can also be started indoors in March-April. Cover with transparent lid with air holes, or ventilate regularly. Transplant after hardening off in May-June. Harvest continuously throughout the summer. It flowers in the second year, so sow annually for a steady supply.
