Ocimum basilicumA flavorful salad basil. Basil has become a classic in Swedish cuisine. This is a large-leaved, taller variety. The big leaves are perfect for mixed salads, pesto, "basil wraps," and more. The light purple flower spikes are both decorative and edible.
Growing from seed:
Start indoors in seed compost. Cover with a transparent lid with air holes, or ventilate regularly. Transplant outdoors after hardening off when the risk of frost has passed. Pinch the tops for a bushier growth habit. Grows best in pots in a warm, sheltered location. Can also be grown indoors year-round.
